Who we are
BEAUTIFUL WITHIN
At Olathe Designs, "Olathe" means beautiful in Shawnee—a word that signifies beauty in all its forms across the globe. To us, beauty is comprehensive, celebrating the intrinsic worth of every individual. You are Olathe; you are beautiful within.
Our designs embody the essence of each creation that emerges from the skilled hands of our family. Rooted in the deep traditions of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and Muskogee Creek, our talented team spans three generations—my grandmother, my mother, and myself. Every piece, from intricate beadwork and vibrant ribbon skirts to custom designs, is charged with the spirit of our heritage and the vibrancy of modern design.
Our Story
From the gentle hands of my grandmother, who wove the stories of our ancestors into each thread, to the innovative designs my mother introduced, and now to me, propelling our legacy into new mediums and platforms—we are Olathe Designs. Our path is one of continuity, creativity, and community.
Meet the Makers
Grandma: With over 50 years of sewing experience, she still surprises us with the masterpieces she creates.
Mom: A visionary in blending traditional patterns with contemporary designs, her 40 years of beadwork experience is truly remarkable.
Myself: I bring our traditions into new arenas with graphic designs and customized designs in a digital realm that resonate with the youth of today. I blend both sewing , beadwork, sketching, and continually refining the crafts taught to me by my family.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to craft pieces that not only adorn but also narrate—celebrating the strength and beauty of the modern Native woman. Our vision is a tapestry of the past and future, woven together through threads of cultural pride and innovative design.
Community and Culture
As representatives of our tribes, we hold our roles as custodians of our culture with reverence. Each piece sold not only supports our family but also gives back to our communities, fostering growth, education, and the preservation of our traditions.
